3 minors electrocuted as overhead wire snaps at Mogra

Kolkata: Three minor children were electrocuted and rushed to the Chinsurah Hospital with serious burn injuries.

The incident took place at Mogra in Hooghly district on Thursday morning. The victims have been identified as Md Sahid (7), Mafirul Seikh (9) and Farhan Ansari (8). They were playing in the field at Roropada village of Mogra when an electric wire fell on them.

Some of the local residents spotted the victims lying on the field surrounded by the electricity wire. They soon rushed the victims to Chinsurah Hospital, where they were immediately taken to the burn unit.

After primary treatment the hospital authorities decided to shift the patients to a city hospital.

The local villagers staged a protest demonstration in Mogra, after the incident happened. They alleged that the overhead electric wires are not properly maintained, as a result of which it snapped. They also demanded an inquiry into the incident.

The agitation prompted the district police officers to rush to the spot. The officers assured that the matter would be looked into. They pacified the irate mob and the agitation was lifted after a few minutes.

Police are trying to know how the incident occurred.
