3 killed, 24 injured in three separate accidents
Kolkata: Three persons were killed and twenty four injured in three separate road accidents in the districts on Wednesday.
According to the police, all the three victims are from Murshidabad. It was learnt that one Biswanath Hazra (50), who was cycling along National Highway 34, has been killed after being hit by a tractor.
In the other incident, two persons have been killed when a pick up van collided head on with a truck on Kandi-Berhampore State Highway in the same district.
The victims have been identified as Sirajuk Seikh (27) and Mirajul Seikh (30).
The district police said the first incident took place on National Highway 34 near Nabagram at around 10.30 am when Hazra was riding his bicycle.
A resident of Gopgram village, Hazra was returning home from a local market when a speeding tractor hit him from behind. Locals rushed the victim to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. The tractor driver fled the spot with the vehicle immediately after the accident.
Locals also staged a protest demonstration at the place of the accident protesting against rash driving. The victim was declared brought dead at the hospital. The body was sent for an autopsy. In the other incident, the two victims were going to Berhampore in a pickup van to buy fishes when it was hit by a truck. The incident took place in Kalabagan area at around 11.30 am. It was learnt that there were four others in the pickup van who suffered injuries in the accident. In another incident, around 20 persons were injured, some of whom critically, when a bus overturned near Layek Bazar at Bolpur in Murshidabad.
Among the injured, there are some women and children, the district police said.
