3 drown while offering tarpan, 1 rescued

Kolkata: Two persons in Uttarpara and one person in Bagbazar drowned while offering tarpan on Monday morning. The person who had drowned in Bagbazar was rescued by the Disaster Management Group of Kolkata Police.

On Monday morning, a person identified as Subodh Yash was offering tarpan in the Battala Ghat in Hindmotor. All of a sudden, his family members noticed that Yash was not there. Immediately, police personnel posted there were informed. Upon receiving the information, divers started a search operation. After nearly two hours, they fished out Yash's body. Sources informed that Yash was a professor of North Bengal University.

On the other hand, another person identified as Sandip Santra drowned while offering tarpan in Sheoraphuli Ghat. DMG and police immediately started a search operation. But till Monday evening, divers failed to trace Santra.

The third incident happened in Bagbazar Ghat. A person identified as Uttam Das, a resident of Belgachia, drowned while offering tarpan. Immediately divers from the DMG jumped into the water and rescued him.
