26 passengers injured in two separate road accidents

Kolkata: As many as 26 persons have been injured in two separate road accidents in the state on early Sunday morning.

The first incident took place on National Highway 117 at Diamond Harbour in South 24-Parganas when a bus and a truck collided head on. Around 15 passengers were injured in the accident. They were rushed to a local hospital. There was huge traffic congestion in the area for quite a long time.

According to police, a truck was headed towards Kakdwip from Diamond Harbour when a Kolkata-bound government bus coming from the opposite direction collided head on with the truck.

The driver of the bus lost control over the vehicle and eventually hit the truck. Both the driver and the helper of the bus were also injured.

Locals took part in the rescue operation and rushed the injured persons to a nearby hospital. After being informed, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Other vehicles remained stranded on National Highway 117. Police seized both the vehicles.

In another incident, around 11 passengers of two buses have received injuries when a state-run bus was hit by another state-run bus from behind.

The incident took place near Dhubguri. According to police, the Balurghat-bound bus was standing near Cinema Hall More to de-board passengers when the other bus hit it from behind. Passengers were immediately rushed to a local health centre. A major tragedy was averted as the other bus was at a low speed and could slow down itself before it hit the bus.
