2-year-old boy's body recovered

Tension ran high at Sahapur area of old Malda following the recovery of the body of a 2-year-old boy who had been missing for the last five days.
However, confusion was created after the father of the baby refused to accept the baby as his child. The local residents on Sunday morning found the body of a boy lying near the Mahananda river. After being informed, the police reached the spot and recovered the body. They later sent the body for the post-mortem. According to the preliminary investigation, the police suspect that the baby was murdered.
Tanmay Mondal (2) a resident of the Sahapur area had gone missing and his father Balaram Mondal later lodged a complaint with the police.
Mondal told the police that Tanmay was playing in a field along with his elder brother. The boy had gone missing when his elder brother went to a nearby area to have some water. When he returned to the spot, he found that Tanmoy was not there. The family members called up their relatives' house and came to know that the boy did not go there. His father searched in the nearby areas but failed to get any trace of his son.
After being informed by the locals on Sunday morning, Mondal rushed to the spot but he told the police that the body did not belong to his son.
Police are conducting probe to ascertain the identity of the boy. They said DNA test may be conducted on the boy to determine his identity.
