2 killed, one injured in road mishap at C R Avenue
Kolkata: Two youths died and another was injured after a truck hit a scooter on Monday night on C R Avenue near Md Ali Park.
According to police, on Monday night around 11:30 pm, a truck was moving towards Esplanade. When the truck was passing through Zakaria Street and C R Avenue crossing a scooter overtook it and came in front. It happened so suddenly that the truck driver lost control and hit the scooter.
Three youths riding the scooter fell on the road as soon as the truck hit them and suffered multiple injuries. The trio was rushed to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where two of them identified as Raju Bhuniya (31) and Gopal Das (28) were declared brought dead. The other youth identified as Shankar Bhuniya was discharged from the hospital after treatment.
Sources informed that the youths were reportedly riding the scooter without headgear and were also drunk. Police have registered a case against the truck driver on charges of causing death by negligence and arrested him. The truck has also been seized.
This apart in three separate accidents in Howrah, East Burdwan two persons died. On Monday around 6 am, a Hooghly bound truck hit another truck parked near the Nibedita Setu toll plaza. Driver of the parked truck died on the spot. It is suspected that the offending truck driver had fallen asleep. The other incident took place around 8 am in Memari where a pick up van hit a pedestrian.
