2 held for stealing gold from Salt Lake store

Kolkata: Bidhannagar North police station has arrested two women for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from a jewellery store at DC block in Salt Lake. The two accused identified as Mariyan Bibi,and Marjina Bibi

of Deganga.

According to the sources, the women used to approach as prospected buyers of gold ornaments. They used to ask the salesperson to show them ornaments and tried them on. After the trial, the accused persons used to provide some amount of token money and say they would come some other time and take the item paying rest of the amount.

On Tuesday, Mariyan and Marjina went to a jewelry shop at DC block in Salt Lake and pretended they wanted to buy some gold ornaments. After seeing several items, they selected some and tried one gold locket and a pair gold top.

Later, the accused women gave the salesperson Rs 500 and told him they would return in the evening and take the selected ornaments after paying the rest of the amount. After the duo left the shop, the salesperson noticed that one gold locket weighing about 3.20 gm worth Rs 11,797 and a pair of gold top weighing about 3.340 gm worth Rs 12,115 were missing.

Immediately, the director of the store was informed. Later, when the CCTV footage was checked, the salesperson found that the ornaments were missing after the two women left.

Director Binod Kumar Soni suspected that the two women might had something to do with this as their body language looked suspicious. He lodged a complaint at Bidhannagar North police station and the duo was arrested from Salt Lake on

Thursday morning.

The sleuths suspect that the two women are a part of an interstate racket. According to the sources, the duo had talked about 12 other members involved in the gang. They operate all over the state.

They have been remanded to three-day police custody by the Bidhannagar Court on Thursday.
