2 bikers dead in separate road accidents
Kolkata: Two bikers were killed in two separate road accidents in East Midnapore on Wednesday morning.
Police said the first incident occurred on Haldia-Mecheda State Highway when a speeding bus hit a motorcycle. Gopal Burman (38), who was riding a motorcycle sustained serious injuries in the accident and declared brought dead at a nearby hospital.
Burman was going to Mahishadal from Chaitannapur area at around 7 am when a bus coming from the opposite direction knocked him down. The bus driver fled along with the vehicle.
The victim got injuries in several parts of his body including head. Some locals rushed the victim to Haldia Sub-Divisional hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. The body has been sent for autopsy.
In the other incident, Chandan Giri (31) was killed after being hit by a bus. The incident took place in Ramnagar area on 116 B National Highway. Giri, a resident of Ramnagar was going to a local market riding motorcycle when the accident occurred.
Locals informed police that the two buses were competing with each other when one of them suddenly hit the motorcycle. The bus driver fled leaving the vehicle at the spot. The bus has been seized for the sake of investigation.
Locals staged a demonstration in the area protesting against the reckless driving of vehicles. The situation was brought under control after the intervention of senior police officers. Police sent the body to Contai Hospital for autopsy.
It is suspected that low visibility in the morning hours due to mist might have caused the accidents. Actual reasons are yet to be ascertained.
