18-year-old sexually abused by 5 in Jalpaiguri

Darjeeling: Jalpaiguri woke up to a horrific incident of gang rape on Wednesday. An 18-year-old was allegedly sexually abused by 5 youths. Police have arrested two. A manhunt has been launched for others.

On Tuesday night, the victim had left her residence on a bicycle to visit the house of her elder sister. A short distance away, a street food vendor Madan Das blocked her way along with his friend Biswajit Rai. They forcefully took the victim to a nearby building that was under construction. They allegedly abused her there. In the meantime, Hira Rai, Subrata Rai and Bishu Das arrived at the spot. They too allegedly sexually abused her. However, a light bulb in the building attracted the attention of a neighbour who arrived to investigate. On seeing him, the 5 perpetrators fled and noticing the victim in a critical condition, the neighbour rushed her to hospital. The family members of the victim have filed a complaint at the police station. "Two persons have been arrested and a manhunt has been launched for others," stated Upasana Gurung, police officer.
