18-year-old girl from Berhampore killed in gas cylinder explosion
Kolkata: An 18-year-old girl died after a LPG cylinder burst at Satui village in Berhampore on Sunday. Locals informed that she was about to get married in 20 days.
According to the locals, on Sunday morning, the girl Tanusree Nandy was cooking lunch in the kitchen. Her family members were not present at the time of the incident. Around 9:30 am her neighbours heard a loud noise of explosion from Nandy house.
When some of the neighbours rushed, they saw the first floor was burning. The fire brigade was informed. Till the fire tenders arrived, locals tried to control the fire but failed as the intensity of the fire was very high. Later, one fire tender doused the flames and recovered Tanusree's charred body from the kitchen.
It has been assumed that when she was cooking somehow the gas inside the cylinder leaked that caused the fire. As the fire caught the cylinder immediately, Tanusree failed to get out of the kitchen despite attempts.
"We heard an explosion. We ran towards the house and found fire on the first floor. We tried to douse the flames but did not get a chance in front of the devastating fire," said a neighbour.
Tanusree's father Tamal works as a bus driver in the North Bengal State Transport Corporation. He and his brother Rabi went to invite their relatives. Tanusree was supposed to get married on December 2 with Ratan Pal who is also a resident of the same village.
