18 country-made guns found in bag at Howrah station

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) found some country-made guns kept in a bag lying on platform 8 of Howrah station. The passengers soon alerted the policemen and the RPF jawans reached the spot and moved the passengers to a safe distance.

The jawans opened the bag to find 18 country-made guns which were kept inside the bag. Soon after the incident, the RPF started inspecting the whole station area.

The senior officers of the RPF suspected that there could be some other bags kept inside the station in which arms were kept. But no such bags were recovered after thorough inspection. The CCTV footages were also scanned.

Police suspect that the culprit could not get into the train with those guns due to the presence of security personnel and he dropped the bag in the station.

However, there are many instances where arms were recovered from Howrah station.

Recently, the CID had arrested a man in his late 30s at Howrah station and seized 15 improvised firearms from him.

It should be recalled that four officers of the CID's Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested Jawahar Ahmed while he was about to board a Malda-bound train in 2014. Police said Ahmed, a resident of Kaliachak in Malda, confessed during interrogation that he had procured the 9mm pistols from an arms dealer in Kolkata.
