16-day film festival to battle domestic violence
Kolkata: Udaan, a film festival to fight domestic violence, will be inaugurated at Rotary Sadan on November 30.
The film festival is a part of the 16-day international campaign to stop violence against women and girls.
November 30 is celebrated as South Asian Women's Day for peace, democracy, justice and human rights.
On this day, women's organisations and civil society organisations across the region organise events to celebrate sisterhood, solidarity and address common concerns of conflicts, and violence in the region.
In 2019, the thrust is on raising awareness on domestic violence, a common epidemic that affects women across the region and impacts not just
the individual but the larger society.
Swayam, has been working in the field to end violence against women for decades. The organisation helps the
victims to become economically independent by training them.
Workshops are held round the year to create awareness in society. Awareness drives have been also conducted among schoolchildren.
