15-yr-old ends life, suicide note says girl was under academic pressure
Kolkata: A 15-year-old girl committed suicide by jumping off from the roof of a high-rise building on Jatindra Mohan Avenue on Wednesday evening. She was declared brought dead at Calcutta Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
According to police sources, the girl, a resident of Cossipore, used to study in Class X of a renowned private English-medium school at Rathtala, Belgharia. She used to come to attend private tuitions at the said building. On Wednesday, she was supposed to attend the tuition class but did not reach there. It is suspected that she must have gone to the roof and jumped off to death from there. Around 6 pm, some pedestrians saw her falling from the building. She was immediately rushed to CMCH where the doctors declared her brought dead.
The Burtolla police station was informed about the incident immediately. Police later managed to acquire her address and contact number of her parents and informed them.
During the search, sleuths recovered a suicide note from her possession. Sources informed that in the suicide note there was mention of academic pressure. Later, the cops came to know that she was suffering from depression due to academic pressure. The body has been sent for autopsy examination.
Sleuths may get in touch with the school authority to find out why she was under such pressure.
The investigators came to know that on Wednesday she did not go to her teacher for private tuition.
Later, when the residents of the said building were questioned, it came to light that due to some renovation work, the door of the roof was kept open. Sleuths suspect that possibly she somehow came to know about the open door and decided to use the roof to kill herself.
