12-bed HDU opens in Katwa Sub-Divisional Hospital

Kolkata: In a bid to bring improvement in the health infrastructure in East Burdwan district, Katwa Sub-Divisional Hospital has received a new 12-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU).

This comes as a major boost to the infrastructure of the hospital as well. The hospital will no longer require to transfer critical patients to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital or to the city's medical colleges. Earlier, many patients had to be shifted to other hospitals due to lack of adequate infrastructure in Katwa sub-divisional hospital.

As the 12-bed HDU has come up in the hospital, it would take pressure off other hospitals. This is a part of the overall development of health infrastructure in the districts.

After coming to power, Mamata Banerjee government has taken up a host of new initiatives for a major revamp in the hospital infrastructure in East Burdwan.

It may be mentioned that a Multi Super-specialty hospital has been set up in Kalna.

Five fair-price medicine shops have been set up in Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, Katwa Sub-divisional Hospital, Memari Rural Hospital, Kalna Sub-divisional Hospital and Super Specialty Wing of Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.

As a result of buying medicines from these fair-priced shops, around 28.58 lakh people have ended up getting discounts of more than Rs 64.17 crore. Fair-price diagnostic centre was also introduced in Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. The district health officials believe that the introduction of the new HDU in Katwa Sub-divisional hospital will reduce the number of patient transfer to the city.

Critical care units and high-dependency units have also come up in Burdwan Medical College and Hospital and Kalna Subdivisional Hospital as well. Around 17 sick newborn stabilisation units (SNSU) have been set up in various hospitals across the district. In addition, 3 sick newborn care units (SNCU) have been constructed in Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, Katwa Subdivisional Hospital and Kalna Subdivisional Hospital. More than 1,097 children were successfully operated under Sishu Sathi schemeand about 3.14 lakh people from the district have enrolled their names under Swasthya Sathi scheme.
