1 killed, 1 injured in two separate road accidents

Kolkata: One person was killed and another person injured in two different road accidents in the city on Sunday.

A pedestrian died after he was hit by an unknown bus on Basanti Highway near Chowbaga bus stand on Sunday afternoon. In another incident a minor girl was hit by a private car near Chingrihata Flyover.

According to locals, around 2 pm on Sunday, one Ajay Sardar (47) was ran over by a speeding bus on Basanti Highway. As locals ran to help him, the driver fled the scene with the bus. The bus disappeared and as a result nobody was able to note down the registration number of the offending bus.

Ajay was rushed to Chittaranjan National Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

After the accident locals protested alleging that police are not doing anything to curb accidents in the area. Later, situation became normal after senior police officers assured people that necessary steps would be taken. In another incident, a minor girl identified as Moumita Sardar (16) was hit by a private car near Chingrihata Flyover while crossing EM Bypass. She was rushed to a private hospital near Kadapara on EM Bypass where Moumita is undergoing treatment. Police detained the vehicle's driver and

seized the car.
