1 killed, 1 hurt after bike rams into divider on EM Bypass
Kolkata: A youth died after his bike rammed into the median divider on Eastern Metropolitan (EM) Bypass near Bengal Chemical late on Saturday night. A young woman who was sitting on the pillion seat of the bike also received serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital near Kadapara.
According to police, on Saturday night at around 1:50 am, a bike was moving towards Ultadanga along EM Bypass at high speed. After the Bengal Chemical crossing, the biker identified as Abhishek Roy (21) lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the median divider of the road.
As a result, he along with his friend identified as Manisha Roy who was sitting on the pillion seat, fell on the road and received serious injuries. Hearing the sound of collision, locals ran to the spot and rushed them to a private hospital on EM Bypass near Kadapara. Maniktala police station was also informed.
After admitting the duo, Abhishek succumbed to his injuries at the hospital due to serious head injury. It has been alleged that neither of them were wearing helmets. Police also informed that the bike was not even registered to any Regional Transport Office (RTO). Sources informed that on Saturday, Manisha was celebrating her birthday. After celebration at home in Murari Pukur, she went out with Abhishek in order to celebrate her birthday with him. Police are trying to ascertain whether Abhishek was a proper driving licence holder.
