According to intelligence inputs available with the Centre, two terrorists who had fled the spot after performing the terror attack in Bangladesh might try to cross the border and enter into West Bengal. The Union Home Ministry instructed the state government to seal the border in the wake of the incident. The ministry has asked the state government to intensify the vigil along the international border.Â
Top brass of the Border Security Forces have been alerted as well. Following the alert from the Centre, the state government has taken up various security measures in the bordering districts and in the city. Additional security personnel have been deployed at important installations and railways stations throughout the state. Security was beefed up at Kolkata airport and the Metro stations.
Police personnel in plain clothes have been deployed at various shopping malls, restaurants and other places where large number of people assemble.Â
Police pickets have been set up at various parts of the city and the entry points to the city. The Bidhannagar police have also made some security arrangements outside the Calcutta airport.Â
All the cars that were entering into the airport compounds were being thoroughly searched.Â
Passengers who were taking flights to Bangladesh were under close observation of the security personnel at the airport. As there are many important offices in Sector V, the Bidhannagar police have intensified the vigil. If anything was found to be suspicious, the police were intercepting the cars coming from the airport side and examining at the check posts that were set up in various places.Â
Security has been enhanced outside the office of the deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in the city and all other important offices across the city.
Security has also been tightened around Victoria Memorial, Howrah station, Sealdah station, Centre and state government owned institutions. Following the arrest of some ISI agents from Kolkata a few months ago and getting important information and maps of defence installations in the state police suspected that the terrorists were also hatching a plan to carry out terrorist attack in some parts of the country. The militant groups from Bangladesh often use West Bengal as a passage to other states.
