Kolkata: Saradha Group chit fund scam kingpin Sudipta Sen and close aide and company director Debjani Mukherjee were on Wednesday sent to Kolkata police custody till 11 June by a court here.
‘The Kolkata police were Wednesday given the custody of Sen and Mukherjee till 11 June by the court of chief judicial magistrate (Alipore) S. Roy. Police want to interrogate them in connection with several cases of cheating and fraud committed within the city limits,’ said defence counsel Samir Das. Sen and Mukherjee were presented before the court in connection with a cheating case filed by an agent who claimed to have invested over Rs.4 lakh in the company.
The two accused and senior company employee Arvind Chauhan were earlier remanded to judicial custody by courts in North and South 24 Parganas in different cases alleging cheating, conspiracy and non-payment of salary to employees. The Odisha police on Tuesday sought the custody of the three accused to inquire into their alleged involvement in illegal money circulation in the state.
Sen, Chauhan and Mukherjee were arrested from Sonmarg in Jammu and Kashmir April 23, days after the Group collapsed, unable to repay lakhs of mostly poor depositors from rural areas.
