Koli likely to be shifted to Meerut

As per the reports, Meerut jail authorities have, once again started preparation for execution of his death sentence. The jail authorities have also instructed the hangman to make necessary arrangements as it will be its first execution in 39 years.

It may be noted that the CBI court of Ghaziabad had issued death warrant against Koli in first week of September, following which he was shifted to Meerut jail for execution. Later the apex court had stayed his execution and he was shifted back to Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad.

The Supreme Court, in its order had said, ‘we reject the review petition. No grounds have been made to persuade us to reconsider earlier decision.’ Senior advocate Ram Jethmalani, who appeared for Koli, sought reconsideration of the verdict saying it was a case of ‘miscarriage of justice’ as the confessional statement of the accused was ‘false’ and cannot be relied upon. Meanwhile, sources said that CBI court may approach Supreme Court for order copy so they could issue fresh death warrant.

The sources of Meerut Jail said that soon after the court’s order, hangman Pawan was asked by the seniors to clean the room, where Koli will be lodged.
