KMC team inspects Tata factory at Singur

A team of engineers from Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Sunday inspected the sheds of the Tata factory in Singur conducting a thorough study on how they could be dismantled.

A 6-member team of experts will submit a report to the KMC on the basis of its observation at the Tata factory site on Sunday. The experts mainly examined how the sheds were constructed and what machinery would be required to remove them. The expert committee will make necessary recommendations to the concerned department in KMC. During its visit, the committee went through the design of the sheds and found that the pillars had their base deep into the ground.

It may be mentioned that prior to Sunday’s visit, another team led by the KMC Commissioner, Khalil Ahmed also visited the site and examined the construction works at the Tata factory sites and submitted a report to the KMC which had promised to provide technical assistance to the district administration in removing the sheds.

District Magistrate of Hooghly Sanjay Bansal said that the KMC and PWD would provide assistance in removing the sheds while the district administration would monitor the dismantling operations.

The Tata Nano project sheds are spread over 73- acre land, while sheds prepared for auxiliary industries came up on around 50 acre land. The roads that were constructed inside the Tata factory sites cover an area of 350 acre.

However, senior officials of the KMC who visited the site did not mention when the dismantling work would begin.

It was learnt from sources in the district administration that works like plotting, mapping have already been undertaken on 620-acre land. The state government has been working on a war footing so that the farmers can be handed over their land as soon as possible.
