KMC students join teachers’ dharna

The crisis at the prestigious Kirori Mal College (KMC) under Delhi University has escalated with students joining the teachers to protest against the suspension of college principal Bhim Sen Singh. The staff association of Kirori Mal College has been issued a show-cause notice by the university authorities for agitating against the decision to suspend the principal.
Sources said the acting principal of the KMC, S P Gupta has warned the students and threatened them to not participate in the dharna. Staff Association secretary, Rudrashish Chakraborty said that ‘the university has violated our democratic rights by issuing the show cause notice against the staff association because members went on mass casual leave.’ More than 150 students along with teachers have joined the in Kirori Mal College.
The dharna did not disturb the normal hours of the classes. The students expressed solidarity with the teachers who have demanded that the college governing body immediately withdraws the show cause notice issued against the staff association on 2 August.
