Kirori Mal College sacks principal

A day after Bhim Sen Singh, the principal of Kirori Mal College, alleged that the chairman of the college, Baleshwar Rai, indulged in malpractices, the governing body suspended Singh.

Sources said that Singh was given the suspension letter on Wednesday morning after the governing body meet called by the DU Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh. 'Singh was directed to handover the charge of the office of the principal to S P Gupta, who has been made the acting principal of the college with immediate effect,' the sources said.

'Whatever has happened with me is wrong and I will fight the decision taken by the governing body legally. I stand by my allegations against the chairman and I will prove it in court,' said Singh.

When contacted, Rai said, 'I don't have any knowledge about the allegations that have surfaced against me. You should go and ask the Delhi University management. Bhim Sen Singh has no business to bring up such issues.'

Sources also added that 'Singh was about to get suspended in 2010 when he took Delhi University Teachers' Association's side and protested against the semester system. After an investigation of his involvement in the protests against the semester system, a proposal was made in March this year by the governing body to send him on leave, but that did not happen at that time.'

Singh, meanwhile, said that he would once again meet media to discuss the appointment of Alka Sharma as DU registrar on Monday.
