Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal on Monday offered Delhi chief ministerial candidature to former IPS officer Kiran Bedi. Kejriwal said that his party would be glad to nominate Bedi as their party's chief ministerial candidate in Delhi.
Kejriwal said that his party has been asking Bedi to join AAP but she has clearly said she was not interested in politics. He said that even today his party wants Kiran Bedi to join AAP and if she joins, the party would nominate her as the party’s chief ministerial candidate because she has done a lot for the country. Kejriwal further said an honest officer like Kiran Bedi would never join a corrupt party like BJP.
Kejriwal and Bedi were earlier with anti-corruption crusador Anna Hazare and had fought for Jan Lokpal Bill together. However, they had parted ways after Kejriwal took the political route. Bedi has been saying she does not want to join politics and maintained a distance with the Kejriwal-led political party. She has stuck to Hazare in her decision to remain apolitical. Recently there were reports that Bedi has been asked by the BJP to contest against Kejriwal, who has declared his decision to fight against Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit from the New Delhi assembly constituency in the upcoming assembly election.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party on Monday condemned the ‘communal polarisation’ around the Ayodhya dispute and urged the people to reject attempts to mix religion with politics. ‘The AAP calls upon all honest, nationalist and peace loving people of the country from all communities to reject and defeat this dangerous politics of using religion for cynical electoral gains,” it said.
