Kin of road mishap victim gets Rs 32 L compensation

A compensation of over Rs 32 lakh has been awarded by a motor accident claims tribunal (MACT) to the family members of a man, who had died in a road accident after being crushed by a speeding tempo here.
The tribunal directed United Insurance Company Ltd, with which the offending vehicle was insured, to pay a compensation of Rs 32,72,800 to the kin of 50-year-old Rajpal Saini who had died in the road accident in January.

‘In view of the unrebutted testimony of the petitioners and documents available on record, it is prima facie proved that deceased Rajpal Saini died due to injuries suffered in the road traffic accident caused due to rash and negligent driving of respondent no 1 (driver of tempo),’ MACT presiding officer Dinesh Bhatt said.

The victim’s family had approached the tribunal for compensation, saying on 24 January, Saini along with his son was travelling in their car when a tempo hit their vehicle near Wazirabad flyover in Timarpur here. They said the tempo driver did not stop his vehicle and fled the spot but he was caught at the next traffic signal where Saini and others asked him to get down from the tempo.
The tempo driver drove the vehicle rashly and crushed Saini, who was rushed to a nearby hospital, his family members said adding that he died during the treatment.
The tribunal, while awarding the compensation, referred to the postmortem report of the deceased which said he had died due to injuries.
