Kin of road mishap gets nearly Rs 28 lakh relief

The family members of a man, mowed down by a rashly-driven car in 2010, has been awarded a compensation of nearly Rs 28 lakhs by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Delhi. MACT Presiding Officer B S Chumbak directed United India Insurance Company, with which the offending vehicle was insured, to pay the amount to the victim’s family. The order came on a petition filed by family members of 30-year-old Aman Sarin, who was working at mechanical service engineering department of Hitachi Home and Life Solutions (India) and had died due to injuries sustained in the road mishap. The driver and owner of the offending vehicle refuted all allegations against them and said no such accident took place. The tribunal, however, rejected the plea of the driver and owner of the van and directed the insurance firm to pay the compensation to the family members of the deceased.
