Yet again, Delhi Police of South East district has grilled Dr Ashok Sarin, senior nephrologist of Indraprastha Apollo hospital for almost two hours on Wednesday. He is being questioned for his alleged role in the kidney transplant racket that was being run under his nose by his secretarial staff.
However, Sarin’s direct involvement behind the racket is yet to be ascertained. On Tuesday, after conducting three-hour long interrogation with Sarin and another senior nephrologist — Dr D K Aggarwal, Delhi Police remained unsatisfied with Sarin’s replies. Therefore, Sarin was summoned on Wednesday and still the Special Investigation Team is said to be unhappy with his answers.
According to sources close to the investigation: “Sarin’s bank details are likely to be verified along with his newly bought assets in Delhi and elsewhere.” On Wednesday, he was also asked to submit some documents, however, the senior officials refused to divulge further details. The main set of questions asked by the SIT on Wednesday were related to his two secretarial staff who were the first to be arrested. If sources are to be believed, the ongoing interrogation with Sarin is helping the cops to book him under charges of negligence of the Indian Penal Code.
After getting some clues about Sarin’s direct or indirect involvement in the kidney racket from the confessional statement of the arrested persons in the case, Delhi Police officials are leaving no stone unturned to set Sarin free from criminal charges.
The senior police officials added that Sarin will be questioned again. Meanwhile, an official said: “Aggarwal will be questioned again on Thursday after which there will be a joint interrogation of the two doctors. Further, the doctors of the internal hospital authorisation committee will be questioned individually.” Meanwhile, throughout the probe, Sarin maintained that he is innocent and said that he was shocked after he got to know that a kidney transplant racket of such a stature was being run from the hospital. Also, he allegedly insisted that the cops should apply harsher charges on his two secretarial staff who are currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
