The PA has been identified as Dharmendra Chauhan who was arrested from his residence in South-east Delhi’s Govindpuri area. His name cropped up while interrogating T Rajkumar Rao, the mastermind behind the kidney racket. “He told police that apart from Aditya Singh and Shailesh Saxena, the secretarial staff of Dr Ashok Sarin, a senior nephrologist, one Chauhan was also an active member of the gang who used to help the touts to make the forged documents look like original,” a source close to investigation said quoting Rajkumar’s confessional statement.
The source further added that the name of Chauhan also cropped up before the arrest of Rajkumar as he remained absent from the hospital since the day the kidney racket was busted by the police. Before he could escape, the team arrested him from his residence.
Millennium Post had earlier reported that the name of a senior doctor along with his PA has cropped up during investigation. However, on Friday the senior police officials privy to investigation said: “Until we get proper evidence against any doctor, if any one is involved in the racket, we will not detain or arrest them.
“After completion of the investigation, we might give notices to the concerned doctors, whose staff members have been arrested, to join the probe.”
On Thursday and Friday, all the accused persons including the touts, secretarial staff members and the mastermind were made to confront each other. “All of them have narrated the exact sequence of events and it has been confirmed by them that there were more than 5 illegal kidney transplants at Apollo hospital,” said a police official adding that the case study of the recipients (apart from the initial five) is being conducted. Raids are still on to nab the recipients. Meanwhile, Delhi Police are keeping a tight vigil on Sarin’s arrival. “So far, the staff of the two senior nephrologist have denied the involvement of their bosses. But the investigation is being carried out from all plausible angles,” the source added.
