Kidnap mastermind from Noida held in Bhopal

The accused, identified as Sunny Malik carried a bounty of Rs 50,000 and is alleged to be involved several other high profile cases of kidnapping. The high profile Noida-based businessman Kapil Gupta was kidnapped in 2011 and was released after a ransom of Rs 5 crore was paid. The police recovered Rs 4.25 crore from some of his abductors but the alleged mastermind was at large. The STF officials said a tip-off was received that Sunny Malik was planning to meet accused of the case — Kavuta and Monu Gurjar at Noida Stadium this week.
The police, with the help of surveillance team tracked his location in Madhya Pradesh and arrested him with the help of local police. During interrogation, it was revealed Malik was planning to flee abroad and had also applied for a visa.
The police further said Malik was the key conspirator of the kidnapping and made the plan with Saurabh Jain, who worked as an accountant in Gupta’s company. “As soon as we got information, we sent a team to Bhopal and arrested him. We will question him about his involvement in other kidnapping cases,” said Ajay Shahdev, superintendent of police (SP) of STF. Kapil Gupta, who runs an electronic company in Noida Sector 6, had gone missing after dropping an employee to the national Capital and his Mercedes car was found was later found abandoned. The kidnappers had taken him to Meerut and demanded several crores as ransom. After negotiation, his family had paid
Rs 5 crore for his release.
