Khan inspects waste-to-energy plant at Ghazipur

Delhi Environment Minister Asim Ahmed Khan on Friday inspected the waste-to-energy plant at Ghazipur, which is being installed by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation on the basis of a PPP model.

“The plant will produce 12 Mega Watt(MW) power by using 1,300 tonne of municipal solid waste per day,” said Khan. This waste-to-energy plant is being installed by East Delhi Waste Processing Company Limited on a PPP model between EDMC and IL&FS. The Ghazipur landfill, spanning across 70 acres, gets over 2,500 metric tonne of garbage every day. The waste management plant is an environment friendly initiative which aims to mitigate 8.2 million tonne of greenhouse gases over the coming years, said a senior officer of Delhi government. Speaking on the occasion, Khan emphasised the need for proper and effective management of solid waste in the national Capital.
