Kejriwal writes to Rajnath, seeks fresh elections in Delhi

AAP national convenor and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal wrote a letter to BJP national president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday in which he highlighted the attempts being made by BJP leaders to engineer defections in Delhi in a desperate bid to cobble up a majority for forming a government through the backdoor.

Kejriwal said in his letter to Singh to call for a fresh election. He further wrote, ‘If BJP wants fresh election then it should write to Lieutenant Governor to conduct a fresh election.’ Kejriwal further said that the President’s rule has denied the citizens of Delhi their democratic rights to have an elected popular government. The former chief minister alleged BJP’s attempts to lure the AAP MLAs to form the government, which is a wrong practice for Indian democracy.

Kejriwal asked BJP to make its stand clear before the Supreme Court where the petition is going to be heard on 4 July. AAP said: ‘There is no possibility of any alternate government in Delhi and the Lieutenant Governor should have dissolved the Assembly.’

The AAP has reminded the BJP about its repeated public statements that it wants fresh elections in Delhi, however, there is evidence to prove that BJP is indulging in horse-trading.

Kejrwial is all set to meet the President on Thursday. He tweeted ‘all AAP MLAs meeting the President tomorrow at 6.30 pm to request him to dissolve Delhi assembly and hold elections.
