Kejriwal takes the plunge without the Gandhian by his side

Arvind Kejriwal and others, the breakaway Anna Hazare group, launched their political party on Tuesday but decided not to name it for now. Delineating on the party's programme the members promised direct rule of people, fighting corruption and eliminating price rise by taking the political route.

'This is your party, not mine,' said Kejriwal at the launch and announced that his party would not allow elected representatives to use government accommodation, security and the red beacons on their vehicles. 'From today, it's the people who are entering politics. Corrupt leaders, count your days,' said Kejriwal.

The activists-cum-leaders released the vision document of the new party and asked people for feedback. The name of the party will be announced on 26 November. The document terms the decision to launch the party as a quest for swaraj ['self rule'] from 'subjecthood' to citizenship. It  seeks establishment of a Jan Lokpal and carry out electoral reforms to eliminate the role of money and muscle power. 'This is just a trailer. Once the party is launched, the full picture will be seen,' the activist Yogendra Yadav said while referring to the document.

The six-hour-long proceedings of the launch function hinted who are going to be the top leaders of the new party. Apart from Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav, Sanjay Singh, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai were seated ahead of others. Kejriwal's close associate Kumar Vishwas, however, decided not to join the party.

The Kejriwal team had made every effort to connect the launching ceremony with the past fasts of the former Team Anna. There was music, patriotic songs, waving of the national flag and volunteers everywhere to tackle things. Even the famous 'Gandhi cap' was there, though this time 'Main Hun Anna' had been replaced with 'Main Aam Admi Hun' and 'Mujhe Chahiye Jan Lokpal'.

Wearing the aam aadmi cap, Kejriwal said, 'It is a big day for the common people. They are fed up of corrupt politicians and rising prices and are coming together to change the politics of the country.'
