Kejriwal promises piped supply for all in 5 years

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday inaugurated the 50 million gallon daily (mgd) water treatment plant in Dwarka. The plant is expected to fulfil requirement of 13.4 lakh residents and is expected to solve the water crisis in the Dwarka sub-city of Delhi.

“This is a milestone achieved by the Delhi Jal Board in providing water supply in the Dwarka sub-city and its adjoining areas,”said Kejriwal on this occasion. DJB chairperson and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also present on this occasion. “This will bring an end to the water worries of the area. This has raised the expectations of the citizens from the Board and I am sure the DJB officials will redouble their efforts in providing efficient and consumer-centric Water and Waste water services in the city,”said Sisodia. According to DJB the commissioning of the plant will benefit a population of about 13.4 lakh people. The full commissioning of the plant will benefit the residents living in the sub-city of Dwarka as well as Dabri, the Sagarpur group of Colonies, Jeevan Park, the Uttam Nagar Group of Colonies and the adjoining areas and the command areas of the Ujwa, Daulatpur and Nafajgarh underground Reservoirs. The treated water from the plant will be distributed to the 6 command tanks in Dwarka and 3 underground reservoirs at Najafgarh, Ujwa and Daulatpur. The chief executive officer of DJB Vijay Kumar informed that the state-of-the art technology had been used in the plant, with the parallel plate sedimentation principle (Lamella clarifier), rapid gravity sand filters and process wastewater recovery system with zero liquid waste discharge.
