Kejriwal blames corruption for fund crisis in MCD

“If MCD is not working then BJP should resign. AAP will turn MCD into a profit-making venture within a year,” said Kejriwal while speaking on vote-on-account, which was presented in the Assembly by finance minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday.

Kejriwal charged that prevailing corruption in the three civic bodies was the main reason behind the financial crisis. He further added that if BJP could not run MCD properly then the party should leave it for AAP to handle. In the same vein, Kejriwal also took on Central government for any water crisis in Delhi in future.

“I will request Delhi Jal Board (DJB) if there will be scarcity of water in the coming days, then supply of Union Ministers and VVIPs should also be affected,” he added. He further said if there is scarcity of water in near future then public should not bear the brunt of it alone. The apparent warning of water cut to the Union Ministers and VVIPs seems to be an arm twisting strategy of Kejriwal to get more water from BJP ruled Haryana.

It is important to mention here that Kejriwal had already written a letter to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar complaining of less water in Munak but the latter has argued that Delhi should not only depend on Haryana for its water needs. A meeting between the two Chief Ministers on the issue on March 23 could not sort out the issue and both decided to accept the verdict of Delhi High Court. However, Kejriwal told the media that he would again go to Chandigarh to have a meeting in this regard.

“Arvind Kejriwal is surrounded by problems of his party and is not able to pay attention to government therefore, such unsubstantiated allegations. He should focus on eradicating corruption from most corrupt departments of Delhi governments like DJB, health PWD, DSIIDC, power, pollution and education,” said Yogendra Chandolia, mayor of North MCD. “He should first answer what is he doing to book culprits of CWG scam for which he had promised action within seven days,” said Chandolia.

The three mayors of the city — Yogendra Chandolia, Khushi Ram Chunar and Meenakshi along with the councillors of the Corporations staged a dharna at the Delhi assembly. “The government is trying to gag the MCDs but we will protest against the autocratic behaviour of this government,” he added. “BJP has failed but the government should not intrude upon the autonomy of the MCDs,” said Mukesh Goel, Leader of Opposition in North MCD.
