Kejriwal asks for probe into construction of bypass at Ring Road

Intensifying the attack on his predecessor, Delhi chief miniter Arvind Kejriwal on Friday ordered anti-corruption bureau to investigate the irregularities in construction of a bypass at Ring Road from Salimgarh Fort to Velodrome Road. The bypass was constructed at a cost of Rs 407 crore. The flyover was constructed as part of improving city infrastructure for the Commonwealth Games- 2010.
‘The reports of CAG and Shunglu Committee has indicated mismanagement of funds in this project that caused the exchequer losses to the tune of Rs 184 crore,’ said spokesperson of Delhi government.
‘The chief minister has now directed ACB for a through and impartial investigation and necessary action into the matter,’ he added. As per government records, the project was executed in two phases of Rs 214 and Rs 194 crore each.
Before ordering the probe, the new government had apparently called for several files, documents, tender related papers, CAG Reports, Shunglu Committee Reports among others related to works executed by PWD, government of NCT of Delhi during the Commonwealth Games 2010.
As per the records available with the government, a total of Rs 184 crore were lost due to artificial increase in the cost of the project.
The government’s reference to the ACB also directed it to investigate connivance of officers, contractors and executive at high-level without naming any person.
