Keep it clean: Rajnath Singh conducts surprise checks in national Capital

Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday conducted surprise checks at various public places, including hospital, police station, railway station and municipal office, to take stock of cleanliness and other problems faced by the people there.

Accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, Police Commissioner B S Bassi, Singh visited a public toilet at New Delhi railway station to see its cleanliness, the Shivaji Stadium bus stop to inquire about passengers’ convenience, frequency of buses and Paharganj police station to get a first-hand knowledge about complaints and cleanliness in lockups.

‘I am paying the visits to personally see what is happening in these places and assess the overall situation in the city. I am satisfied with the working of some places while in some places there is a need for improvement of services,’ Singh said.

The Home Minister said cleanliness in Sulabh toilet in Paharganj was not up to the mark and he has directed the incharge to do the needful for its improvement. He interacted with passengers at the bus stop and coolies and taxi drivers at railway stations.

‘Today, I realised why people are unhappy with MCD,’ Singh later told Jung. However, Singh expressed his satisfaction over the cleanliness and patients’ facilities at Jayprakash Narayan Hospital and told the Medical Superintendent that whatever necessary assistance is required will be provided to further improve the services.

The Home Minster also visited a slum cluster at Mirdad Road and enquired from the residents about the problems and directed accompanying officials, including chief secretary DM Spolia, to improve their living conditions.
