Kedarnath temple to reopen on 4 May now

As per information provided by Madhu Bhatt, vice-president of Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, ‘The sixth century Kedarnath shrine will reopen on 4 May at 6 am. It was decided on the auspicious day of Mahashivaratri at Ukhimath in Rudraprayag district in a meeting attended by temple committee officers along with religious heads and local priest.’ The famous Kedarnath temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva draws devotees and tourists in large numbers for the past many centuries. Pilgrimage tourism is also considered to be the life-line of the local community and traders. She added, ‘Every year on Rakhsabandan day, the date of opening Badrinath temple is finalized. Similarly, on Shivaratri day, the date of opening portals of Baba Kedarnath temple is decided by temple committee office-bearers, religious heads.
