The authorities, in their four hours drive, razed the structures erected illegally. Notably, the Kaushambi Apartments Resident’s Welfare Association (KARWA) had moved the court last year, seeking action against errant squatters sprawling across the locality and the court, in its order on March 13, asked authorities to ensure no encroachment on public land.
Following the court’s order, the drive was conducted on both sides of the rear entrance near the EDM mall. Early morning, a joint team of the GDA, GNN and Ghaziabad police officials initiated the drive and dozens of illegal establishments were razed; hoardings, banners were removed by the team, despite objections from the errant encroaches.
The team reclaimed encroached parts of roads, pavements and open areas in the vicinity of parks. The team also reclaimed land encroached by the banquet halls including the ‘Grand Yojna banquet’ by demolishing their illegal constructions.
As the area witnesses quite a gathering of boozers, who purchase liquors from neighbouring Delhi
areas on low price and consume the same in Kaushambi, local vendors have mushroomed in various nooks. The vendors have not just occupied the open spaces but are also prone to disposing solid waste hither and thither. “Liquor shops, located on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, attract anti-social elements, who could easily be spotted guzzling liquor in the Kaushambi area. They not only pose security threats to the residents, but also force senior citizens to walk on the roadside,” said Vinay Kumar Mittal, the KARWA President.
“Despite persistent objections, the Grand Yojna banquet has come up on the narrow link road near EDM mall. With no parking space on the narrow road, it has resulted in the collapse of the ambience and peaceful living in Kaushambi. It’s hard to understand as to how the permission was granted for a banquet hall on such a narrow road, which does not have adequate capacity for existing traffic even,” said the KARWA President.
