Young guns Parupalli Kashyap and L Devendro Singh created ripples with strong displays in London Olympics on Tuesday, as India went medal-less a day after the rifle shooter Gagan Narang had opened the Indian account with a bronze.
The shuttler Kashyap, 25, and the boxer Devendro, 20, displayed aggressive styles to demolish their respective opponents to storm into the pre-quarterfinals, while archer Rahul Banerjee advanced to the last 16 with a clinical display.
Kashyap, from Hyderabad, lit up the morning by shocking World No. 11 Tien Minh Nguye of Vietnam in straight games to progress to the last 16 of men's singles. Ranked 21st in the world, Kashyap outplayed his rival 21-9, 21-14 in the second and final Group D match to clinch a berth in the knock-out stage by topping Group D. He beat Tan Yuhan of Belgium in an earlier group match.
