The ongoing unrest in Kashmir and the protest by the Kashmiris may reach the national Capital ahead of Independence Day. Specific inputs have been received by the intelligence agencies that sympathisers of Burhan Wani, the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) commander who was encountered by security forces, could disturb the law and order situation in Delhi during the Independence Day celebration.
Highly-placed sources in the intelligence agencies told Millennium Post that after the killing of Wani and the current situation in Kashmir the numbers of members in the home-grown terror outfit HuM has increased.
“Many sympathisers of Wani are on a verge to take revenge from the security forces for the killing of Wani, who was their hero. These sympathisers have become a threat for the agencies,” sources added.
Another source in Delhi Police confirmed the input and added that such inputs have been shared by the intelligence agencies in the recent meetings held in Delhi related to the security arrangements ahead of Independence Day.
The source further added that special teams have been formed who are keeping a tight vigil on the tourists visiting Delhi-NCR. “There have been reports that some of the sympathisers are already hiding in Delhi-NCR. Though their purpose of visit in the city is yet to be ascertained there is a possibility of foul play,” he added.
According to the inputs, the recent message circulated among HuM members is to shaken the Central government whose headquarter is in the national Capital. Receiving these inputs along with other information about possible terror strikes in the city, the intelligence agencies and the Special Protection Group have already advised that the PM should make his speech from within a bulletproof enclosure at the Red Fort on Independence Day this time.
A senior officer in the intelligence agency said: “The recommendation to the PM was not just because of the Kashmir unrest or the increasing infiltration bids from across the border. But we have intercepted communication about the use of drones to breach the PM’s security cordon. Plus, the ISIS-led terror attacks across the globe is also a factor.”
“Apart from the threats from the home-grown terror outfits, there is also a threat from the outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). Delhi remains on the priority list of the terrorists but the similar alert has also been made in Mumbai and Bengaluru,” the officer said.
It is worth mentioning that despite having an alert in Assam on August 2, a terror strike took place in the state on Friday.
