Delhi Water Minister and chairman of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Kapil Mishra on Thursday inaugurated the first ‘e-piao’, or water kiosk, in the city. Mishra also announced plans to install such kiosks at 200 locations at various busy places in Delhi via public private partnership (PPP) model.
Each e-piao consists of a water kiosk, dustbin, glasses to drink water, solar panels for production of clean electricity for operation, as well as a guard for protection and maintenance. These e-piaos are aimed at providing relief to Delhiites in the summer. The project is being executed on a zero-cost basis, using corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds, with operation and maintenance to be done by DJB.
“There will be 200 e-piaos at various locations in the next two months...The first 100 e-piaos will be installed by May 15,” said Mishra. “Providing safe drinking water to people was part of our election manifesto and the government has delivered it,” he added. He also promised to build a network of water kiosks, e-piaos and public hydrants to ensure availability of safe drinking water.
