During the on-going investigation with Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, names of two JNU professors and three girls of JNU have popped up in connection with providing hide-out to Khalid when a look-out notice was issued against them. They all have been summoned by the Delhi Police, sources claimed.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police got one-day police custody of Kanhaiya Kumar from the special court to interrogate all the three students who have been accused of sedition. According to sources, on Thursday, the Delhi Police summoned five persons including two professors and three female students to join the investigation. The source further claimed that out of the three students summoned, the name of Aparajita, daughter of CPI Member of Parliament D Raja, surfaced.
“A video has been received by the Delhi Police that also shows Aparajita’s active participation in the event inside JNU campus on February 9. The event was to mark the anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s hanging,” a highly-placed source said adding that the video is yet to be verified.
A separate team that has been formed to identify the outsiders present in the event who too are being accused of raising anti-national slogans but are yet to be identified.
On the other hand, the Delhi Police wanted to conduct a face-to-face investigation of Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban to fill the gaps in the investigation. For which, a special court was approached that has given one-day police custody of Kanhaiya, who is lodged in Tihar Jail.
The police are yet to receive the report from forensic labs who are examining more than dozens of videos having the footage of the controversial event.
Meanwhile, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association on Thursday staged a protest in front of Nehru’s statue on the campus. Questioning the University’s Vice-Chancellor’s stand on the current row, the JNUTA member demanded that the Vice-Chancellor should take more proactive steps to normalise the situation. The protest was attended by a hundred JNU teachers who also raised their voice in support of those allegedly involved in shouting anti- national slogans in an event organised on February 9.
