A recent study reveals that Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai are the top three cities in terms of employing female candidates, with 33%, 32%, and 31% of their recruitments being women, respectively.

Meanwhile, the survey revealed that Delhi-NCR has hired the least female workforce among tier-1 cities, at only 22% of the overall. Significantly, the average percentage of total women candidates hired saw a steep drop outside of tier-1 cities, from 31% to 12.5%.

A report by Careernet: Moving towards equality also revealed the highest proportion of female candidates with 0-3 years of experience is being hired in Pune, Bangalore, and Hyderabad while mid-level hires are mostly being made in Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi/NCR have the least proportion of senior-level hires as women. The cities that drive tech innovation such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune employ most of the female talent.

The findings indicate that in-demand job roles for female candidates include software architecture, accounting and finance, application developers, automation developer, big data, business analysts, cloud computing, data scientists, HR, administration, tutors, content writers, and marketing and research professionals. It studied a sample size of approximately 16,000 placements in 2022.

In terms of experience levels, the highest proportion of women being recruited in 2022 was among freshers at 35% of total campus recruitments. The hiring of female candidates at entry level (0-3 years) and mid-level (3-7 years) constitutes 27% of the total hires in their respective bands. However, a serious impediment to the job market is the proportion of women placed in senior-level positions (17%) which trails significantly behind lower experience levels.
