Jundallah latest threat to India: IB

Indian security agencies have tightened their belts after more than 30 Indian Mujahideen operatives along with members of other splinter groups have joined forces with the terror outfit both from India and Pakistan.

‘Jundallah wants to set up a base in Kashmir for which the operatives of Indian Mujahideen and Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami Alami have been recruited,’ the officials said. Sources added that the agenda would not just be to counter the West but also to set up a very strong base in Kashmir.

If sources are to be believed, to outgrow the homegrown image and to break away from Pakistan’s ISI, Indian Mujahideen cozied up with Tehrik-e-Taliban, Pakistan.

The Pakistan-based outfit that is based in Balochistan is led by Tehrik-e-Taliban and is fighting for the ‘rights’ of Sunnis in Iran and shares the same agenda as ISIS. Jundallah had recently claimed responsibility for the Wagah terror strike that killed at least 61 people.

Earlier, the outfit was commanded by Hakimullah Mehsud, leader of Tehrik-e-Taliban who was killed in 2013 in a drone strike. Currently, the outfit is commanded by other members of Tehrik-e-Taliban and the affiliates of Al-Qaeda.

According to the sources in Intelligence Bureau it has been learnt that in the recent past several Indian Mujahideen members have joined Jundallah. Also, other members of several splinter groups such as Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Al-Alanu, Asian Tiger, Ansar-ul-Tawhid and Jundal Hasfa have also joined the outfit. ‘About 30 members of IM have become part of Jundallah,’ IB claims to have learnt.

After Jundallah claimed responsibility for the Wagah suicide attack, the Indian security agencies are on alert and are linking it with the possible terror strikes in the country in the near future. IB has alerted all other security agencies about the emergence of Jundallah and its attempts to collaborate with the splinter groups to broaden its base.

The Special cell of Delhi police and other security agencies, which interrogated IM commander Yasin Bhatkal, are aware about the tie-up of Indian Mujahideen with Tehrik-e-Taliban and ISIS. The association of IM with the Jundallah had come up on their radar when they were picking up intercepts as part of the routine surveillance.
