A brand new pen and ink sketch (print thereof) of Sachin Tendulkar by renowned artist Jogen Choudhury will be in the hands of lakhs of fans as they cheer him for his penultimate test match (199th) to be played out in the City of Joy.
The sketch shows a very young Tendulkar with a headful of curly hair but oozing oodles of confidence. ‘I did study some of his photographs before sketching him. ‘His discipline and controlled expression was remarkable as much as his intelligence even in those early days of his career. It is striking,’ Choudhury told Millennium Post. He was assigned the task by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
Choudhury said this was the first time he was doing a sketch of a sportsperson. ‘I am proud to be part of history since one of the world’s finest cricketers will be playing his 199th test here. He is also my favourite cricketer,’ he said.
Tendulkar will be playing his 199th Test at Eden Gardens before his retirement from international cricket after his 200th test match at the Wakhede Stadium in Mumbai. On that day, the city will also host stars like Amitabh Bachachan and Shah Rukh Khan. They will be present in Kolkata for the inauguration of a film festival, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has announced in her Facebook post.
‘Kolkata will be honoured to have a very eventful day on 10 November, 2013. The cricket legend will be playing the last day of his 199th Test match at the Eden Gardens on that day. We are so lucky to have the presence of all those luminaries on a single day at Kolkata,’ her post reads. As for the priceless ticket, it should be well worth preserving for every single spectator at Eden gardens on that day.
