Jobless husband strangles wife over Rs 1,500 in E. Delhi

In a shocking incident, a 29-year-old man strangled his wife to death for Rs 1,500 that she had received on the eve of Raksha Bandhan. The incident took place on Monday evening in East Delhi’s Geeta Colony area.

According to the police, on Monday, Navneet Kaur (26), the victim returned to her residence at Rani Garden of Geeta Colony. On Sunday, she went to her maternal house in Rajauri Garden to celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan.

When she returned home with her two-month-old daughter, her husband identified as Paramjeet Sindhuria was willing to know what all she had got as Rakhi gift from her brothers. He also demanded Rs 1,500 from Navneet which she refused to give. This  annoyed him.

The couple, who got married in 2013, then had a heated argument over Rs 1500 that later turned
violent. After the scuffle, Paramjeet strangled his wife to death and managed to escape from the spot.

Meanwhile, the neighbours heard her screams.  After 15 minutes, when they did not hear any more sound, suspecting something had gone wrong, the neighbour called the police.

A team, who reached the spot, opened the door that was closed from outside and found a body lying unconscious on the floor. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

During investigation, a man-hunt was made to nab her husband as he was the prime suspect. He was later arrested from Rani Garden area. On sustained interrogation, he confessed to the crime and disclosed the reason behind killing his wife.

Paramjeet used to work as a travel agent but he had lost his job recently.

Since then, the couple used to have regular fights over money. Family of the deceased, however, claimed that Paramjeet used to demand dowry from their daughter and used to harass her for the same.

A police official investigating the case said: ‘SDM inquiry has been called as the couple got married one year ago. Investigation is underway.’
