Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) election committee has decided that student union elections for 2012 will be held on 14 September.
For the All India Student’s Association (AISA), the issues this time around are employment and corruption. Sucheta Dey, president of Jawahar Lal University Student Union said, ‘We always fight for democratic functioning in the JNU. We will always stand for it.’
She added, ‘We will raise our voice so that the duration that the students get the scholraship for is changed from five to seven year.’
In JNU, elections are conducted by students themselves with no interference from the administration.
Sources in JNU said the administration is extra cautious this time with regard to the ‘legality of
conducting elections’ on campus in view of the SC order and the Lyngdoh committee recommendations.
