J&K slaps PSA against Masarat

The imposing of PSA implies that Alam will have to stay in jail for a minimum period of two years. He has also been booked under Sections related to waging war against the country, Sedition, Criminal Conspiracy, rioting and other minor offences. The government took the decision a day after a Budgam court on Wednesday reserved its orders till 25th of this month on a bail application moved by Alam. The 45-year-old hardline leader had been remanded to a seven-day police custody after his arrest.

Masarat Alam was arrested on 17th of this month. He is facing sedition and other offences under Unlawful Activities & Prevention Act for raising pro-Pakistan slogans, hoisting the Pakistan flag and other anti-national activities during Syed Ali Geelani’s April 15 rally in Srinagar. Others accused in the case include Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani, Peer Saifullah, Mehrajudin Kalwal, Javed Ahmad Najar, Zahoor Ahmad Kanna and Ayaz Akbar. However, only Masrat Alam had been arrested in this case and the court had remanded him to seven-day police custody till Thursday.
Geelani, meanwhile, in Srinagar asked the people to hold peaceful protest demonstrations after Friday prayers.
