Jewellery showroom looted at gunpoint

Two armed men looted cash and gold jewellery worth over lakhs of rupees from a jewellery showroom located in west Delhi's Raghubir Nagar on Tuesday evening.

'The police received a call at around 5.30 pm, that a jewellery showroom, Luthra Jewellers, located at Shivaji Market in Raghubir Nagar area has been robbed at gun point,' said a police officer.

At around 4.30 pm, the owner of the shop, Ashwani Luthra, was present in his shop with his younger brother Subhash Luthra and two servants when two robbers, aged between 30 to 40 years, reached at their showroom.

Ashwani told the policemen, that they asked Subhash to show some gold jewellery, which they wanted to buy. But, in the meantime, one of them pulled a gun and took away seven trays of gold jewellery and ornaments.

The thieves had parked their car, Swift, outside the shop. The registration number of the car has been given to the police. 'We are verifying the jewellery that were stolen' said V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police.

No security guard was present at the showroom during the incident. The police is checking the CCTV footage in order to identify the thieves, said the official.
