Not willing to go down without a fight, suspended BJP MP Ram Jethmalani on Tuesday shot another letter to party president Nitin Gadkari accusing him of treading on the path of suicide and dragging the party with him. ‘Vinash kal Vipreet buddhi (when one is set to be doomed one loses one’s mind)’ is an old maxim,’ said Jethmalani.
The veteran lawyer said: ‘No situation had arisen in which you should have proceeded without speaking to me and complying with ordinary decencies of a quasi-judicial office which you hold.’
‘I learnt from the press that they have issued a showcause notice. I have not received anything yet. I will read it and if I find any substance in it I will reply to it otherwise I will throw it in the waste paper basket,’ he said. He also ruled out leaving the party. Jethmalani accused Gadkari of suspending him on advice of Jaitley. The veteran lawyer also alluded to the alleged role played by Jaitley in the CBI director’s appointment row.
In the letter, Jethmalani said the lawyers representing Delhi police commissioner Neeraj Kumar, were Jaitley’s juniors. ‘It is very improbable that the litigation before CAT was not known to him and I presume that you have also acted on advice of Jaitely,’ said Jethmalani. He further accused Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj of not consulting him on the Lokpal issue.
