Jessica Lal murder: Manu Sharma’s parole extended

The Delhi High Court on Thursday extended parole to Manu Sharma for one month, so that he could prepare and submit his masters’ thesis. He was serving a life term in the Jessica Lal murder case. Justice S. Muralidhar, while extending Sharma’s parole, asked him to surrender on 2 August. Sharma was earlier granted 15 days’ parole to sit for his exams which were scheduled to commence from 19 June to 24 June. He has been pursuing his post-graduate examination in human rights.
Sharma, 36, shot dead the 34-year-old ramp model working as a celebrity waitress at the Tamarind Court restaurant of socialite Bina Ramani in south Delhi’s Mehrauli area on 29 April, 1999, after she refused to serve him a drink. Sharma was sentenced to life imprisonment by the high court in December 2006. The life term was upheld by the Supreme Court.
